"That Rock was Christ"

Exodus 17:1-7, Numbers 20:1-13
(see also 1 Corinthians 10:5-6)

Hurt Road Baptist Church
Bro. Frank McCleod

  1. Your thirst prevents you from seeing clearly (Ex. 17:3)
    • a. It blinds you from seeing the ______ ______ (Ex. 17:3)
    • b. It blinds you from seeing God's man [Moses] as exactly that!
(Ex. 17:2, Num. 20:2) - missing the "big picture"
    • c. It blinds you from seeing the very love and care of God! (Ex. 17:7)

  2. Your thirst precedes your finding God's answer. (Ex. 17:4-6)
      precedes = "bottoming out"
    • a. You murmur while God has a plan worked out [in advance].
      (Ex. 17:5-6)
    • b. You murmur about how bad it is, looking to the past as good.
      (Num. 20:5)

  3. Your thirst prepares you to receive God's answer.
      Thirst is good!
    • a. You receive what you need from God! (Ex. 17:6b, Num. 20:11)
    • b. You receive the answer while yet _____ _____ _____!
      (Num. 20:10, Rom. 5:8)
    • c. You receive the answer ______ ______! (Num. 20:8, Eph. 2:8-9)

JESUS IS THE ROCK!
You must trust Him in order to have your spiritual thirst quenched.

John 6:35
Jesus said, "I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger;
and he that believeth on me shall never thirst."

"Seeing by faith"

Matthew 14:22-32

Hurt Road Baptist Church
Bro. Frank McCleod

  1. Understand that you may _____ in fear. (22-26)
    • a. You have fear of the unknown
    • b. You have fear of failure
      - In relation to military training, fear helps [the soldier] be even more alert and focused.

  2. Understand that you must resolve to act. (28-29)
    • a. Act on God's will as you perceive it to be from God (the Lord "speaking")
    • b. You must act before God can confirm ("He cannot steer a parked car")
      - Prove that what I'm doing or where I am led is the will of God; look for confirmation.

  3. Understand that you must remain on course. (30-31)
    • a. Don't take your eyes off the Lord who bids you to come!
      - Don't focus on my problems, but instead on Jesus (and He will take care of them).
      - What are any distractions? Identify them and turn from them.
    • b. The same Jesus who bids you to come protects you
    • c. The same Jesus who protects you will rebuke you
Seeing by faith = 20/20 foresight
